Public sector organisations operate under a level of scrutiny that private companies do not. Decisions can be examined by internal audit, external audit, elected members, the press and the public through Freedom of Information requests. A disposal arrangement that cannot be explained clearly is a problem well before it is a data problem.

That shapes what we provide. Every collection produces documented chain of custody, and our Premium service issues serialised, tamper-evident Certificates of Destruction per device. If a councillor or an auditor asks what happened to a specific asset, the answer should be a document rather than a recollection.

Social value and local spend

Social value is now a scored element in most public procurement rather than a tie-breaker. Two things about our model are relevant and, more importantly, evidenceable:

• Reuse over recycling. We refurbish and remarket first, which extends equipment life and keeps embodied carbon in service. We can supply the reuse rate and landfill diversion figures rather than asking you to take it on trust.
• Local supply chain. We are a Yorkshire business operating from a licensed facility in Sowerby Bridge, with our own vehicles rather than a subcontracted network. For authorities weighting local economic benefit, that is a real distinction from a national broker.

Security requirements and restricted sites

Public sector estates range from an open-plan council office to sites with genuine access control. Where staff vetting, pre-notification, escorted access or specific handling conditions apply, raise them at enquiry stage rather than at booking — some conditions take time to arrange, and discovering them on the day wastes everyone's morning.

Our vehicles are unmarked and GPS-tracked as standard. A van with "IT DISPOSAL" down the side parked outside a civic building is an advertisement that valuable, data-bearing equipment is being loaded into it, which is why ours carry no livery.

Typical public sector estates

The equipment mix in local government is unusually broad, because the organisation is. A single authority might retire office desktops, library public-access terminals, CCTV and control room hardware, depot and highways equipment, leisure centre systems, and technology from schools it maintains. Each carries a slightly different data profile — public-access machines and control room systems in particular are often assumed to hold nothing and turn out to hold plenty.

Budget cycles

Public sector disposal tends to cluster around financial year end, when budgets close and equipment written down needs to physically leave. That creates the same capacity crunch the education sector sees in summer. If your clear-out is tied to a year-end deadline, book early — the deadline will not move, and neither will everyone else's.
