Wakefield sits at the junction of the M62 and M1, which makes it both an easy run for us and the natural first stop on our route east toward Doncaster and Lincolnshire.
Wakefield is eighteen miles from Sowerby Bridge, out along the M62 to junction 29 and down onto the M1. It also happens to sit on the route we already run when heading east, which frequently makes Wakefield collections easy to slot into an existing journey rather than treating them as a dedicated trip.
We cover the full WF range — Wakefield city centre, the Five Towns of Castleford, Pontefract, Featherstone, Knottingley and Normanton, and the outlying areas around Ossett, Horbury and Hemsworth.

The Wakefield district's defining modern industry is logistics. The M1/M62 intersection has made the area one of the largest warehousing and distribution clusters in the north, and distribution centres generate a very particular IT estate: hundreds of rugged handheld scanners, vehicle-mounted terminals, label and thermal printers, warehouse management servers, and banks of desktop machines in transport offices that run continuously and get replaced in large synchronised batches.
Around that sit Wakefield Council's estate, the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, a significant further education presence, and the professional services and public sector employers in the city centre. There is also a long tail of former-coalfield industrial units around the Five Towns where older, heavier equipment tends to accumulate.
Decommissioning a distribution centre's IT estate is a scheduling problem more than a technical one. The site does not stop running, the equipment is spread across a very large building, and the handhelds you want to collect are usually still in use until the moment the new ones arrive.
The approach that works is a staged collection: we take the office and server-room equipment first, then return for the handheld and vehicle-mount fleet once the changeover is complete. Each stage gets its own documentation, so nothing sits in limbo without a paper trail.
Two things are easy to overlook on a warehouse job. Handheld scanners and vehicle-mount terminals hold data — often including cached network credentials and operational records — so they need proper sanitisation rather than being treated as accessories. And a large fleet of identical handhelds in working order frequently has genuine resale value, which can offset the cost of the wider project. Ask us to value them before you write them off.
Tell us roughly what you have and we will come back with a straight answer on cost and timing.
